Pancake Day - Shrove Tuesday 24 February

pancake day

Welcome to Focus On... Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday as it's properly known. In
Food Events we've got Pancake Day Races across the country - we've picked a few of our favourites here. To make your own pancakes, we've got a dead simple recipe from Gilchesters Organics and a traditional treat from Henrietta.

cooked pancakes

Cook the ultimate indulgent pancake recipe from Gilchesters Organics

Or why not Henrietta's recipe for A Quire of Paper... As she says "These rich and very thin pancakes are piled one on top of the other and eaten cut into slices, rather like a cake. The recipe comes from The Art of Cookery Made Plain and Easy by Hannah Glasse written in 1747. They are made exactly as modern pancakes."

'Take a Pint of Cream, six Eggs, three spoonfuls of fine Flour, three of Sack (sherry), one of Orange-flower water, a little Sugar, and half a Nutmeg, grated, half a pound of Melted Butter, almost cold; mingle all well together, and butter the Pan for the first Pancake; let them run as thin as possible: when just coloured they are enough: And so do with all the fine Pancakes.'
