There are quiches with various fillings, crumbly French onion tarts, spiced vegetable or turkey & leek pasties, and even own-made dolmades. Locals bring in wild mushrooms and he prepares croustades, preserves them in oil or dries them to sell in packets. There are also various cakes, cheesecakes, puddings and - more often than not – their own tart and cakey bara brith, which Deiniol makes with a little whey rather than milk “so important for its depth and moisture”.
The Surprisingly – and only because of where it is, a small village in North-Wales – Blas Ar Fwyd is an exciting food shop. The name is adapted from a Welsh saying which roughly translates as ‘enjoying good food and a good life’ and that is owner Deiniol ap Dafydd’s philosophy. Brought up in Llanrwst, he returned after a few years “abroad” (London, actually working in the food trade). The company employs over 35 staff at their premises in Llanrwst.
While being quoted as "the best delicatessen in Wales" Blas ar Fwyd also comprises a restaurant and brasserie, Amser Da. Across the road is Blas ar Wîn Deiniol's wine shop which boasts the finest selections of fine wines in Wales. Blas ar Fwyd also have 25 years experience of offering a comprehensive catering service at locations throughout north, mid Wales and the border country, we can provide light lunches, family celebration buffets, corporate dinners, charity events and weddings.
