Cranborne Stores, right in the centre of the picture postcard village of Cranborne, is both a ‘regular’ village shop and a showcase for produce from the estate. This includes beef, pork and lamb and game in season. All the meat is free range and traditionally reared for maximum taste.

Beef is hung for a minimum of 28 days and there’s usually a choice of rare breed pork from Middle White, Large Black to Saddleback. These lend themselves to different cuts – they butcher a good range of cuts from loins to whole heads for a brawn – and different cooking methods. They also make various sausages – pepper & thyme and sage & wine are particularly popular and dry-cure for bacon and pancetta with a Parma-style ham following on shortly.

The deli counter stocks own-made pies and a good range of British cheeses and, as you might expect from a ‘regular’ village shop, there’s a selection of teas, jams, bread and most every other essential, everyday groceries including brillo pads.
