Godminster became certified organic in 1999 and, not long after, we determined that cheddar cheese made the best use of our milk.  Godminster Vintage Organic is our flagship cheddar and is redefining the way cheddar ought to taste.  Less crumbly than traditional farmhouse cheddars, it is uniquely creamy in both taste and texture.  As a vintage cheddar, it has to mature for over twelve months to allow its tangy, yet smooth, taste to develop.  Many of our customers think we’ve improved on a classic!

Due to the success of our Godminster Vintage we have recently launched Godminster Vintage Oak Smoked Organic cheddar.  This is traditionally cold oak smoked using real oak chips not made using an artificial flavouring.  Already it is becoming a firm favourite with our Godminster fans.

Our crackers are made for us by Popina using our Godminster Vintage Organic Cheddar and come in either rosemary and cheddar and garlic and cheddar, the rosemary and garlic are also grown on our farm.  The crackers are perfect as an accompaniment to our cheddars and due to their rich short texture and size, they are perfect for canapés or as nibbles to go with a chilled glass of wine.

Beetroot is one of our most successful crops on our organic farm, and we decided to turn it into a chutney to accompany our cheddar.  Mixing it with apples from our orchards, we came up with a chunky beetroot and apple chutney – sweet to taste, not too vinegary, and with a deep purple colour it compliments the cheese perfectly.

What began as an experiment using up our left over fruit each year is turning into an industry all of its own.  We buy in organic vodka from a distillery in London and then infuse it with  various fruits and roots.  Our horseradish vodka makes a bloody good Bloody Mary, the elderflower is fantastically fruity and floral.  Our newest flavour is rhubarb which is proving particularly popular, as well as the more traditional flavours of blackcurrant and sloe.  These are available by mail order.
