The Ludlow Food Centre is a unique food shopping experience, where farming, food production and retailing infuse together to create a very special environment. The shopping area is surrounded by 8 food production kitchens, where you can see your food being produced through large picture windows. Local, fresh, handmade foods that reflect the seasonal specialities of our region.
Over 80% of the produce on sale is sourced from Shropshire and the surrounding counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Powys. A large proportion of produce is purchased direct from the grower or producer thereby keeping the supply chain to a minimum and prices at a realistic level. By working directly with the producers we are able to understand their businesses and explain their special qualities to our customers. All our Beef, Lamb and Pork is reared on the estate and is carefully matured and butchered with care and attention to detail.
We like to buy from small artisan producers where quality and taste count and daily deliveries are very much a feature of our business thereby ensuring that produce arrives on the shelf in absolutely peak condition.
Not everything can be grown and produced in our climate but by following the seasons one can enjoy a mouth-watering array of different products throughout the year supplemented where necessary by carefully selected produce from abroad.
As well as working hard to reduce food miles we have been careful to ensure that we are doing as much as we can to protect our environment. The Centre has been built using sustainable materials and incorporates the latest energy management systems. We have built a 3 tier reed bed system to purify the Centre’s waste materials. Rainwater is channelled into a settlement pond before filtering down to the river. Any food waste goes to the new Bio-digester in Ludlow to be converted into gas to make electricity.
We stock a wide range of organic and fairtrade products.
