Cookery Course

The Mistley Kitchen is located in a fine Georgian Town house in the ancient port village of Mistley and offers one-day recreational hands-on workshops for up to 12 participants. Established in 2001 by American-born chef Sherri Singleton, The Mistley Kitchen Culinary Workshops have developed into a destination for keen cooks of all abilities from around the country. The kitchen is a large and splendid room, purpose-built with top of the line Viking Range appliances and an Earthstone wood-fired pizza oven.

Topics include single-subject workshops such as Fish Basics and Pasta Techniques, to ethnic menus covering Quick and Easy Thai Cooking to Tapas and Paella. Workshops begin at 10 o’clock and finish, after a leisurely lunch with appropriate wine, at around 4.

In addition to teaching the workshops, Sherri is the proprietor of two local businesses. The Mistley Thorn is an award-winning restaurant with rooms located just next door to the Mistley Kitchen. Five delightful rooms are on offer for those who wish to stay after, or before, a workshop.

Sherri has always had a great interest in wood-fired cooking, so in October 2008, she opened Lucca Enoteca in the local town of Manningtree. Lucca specialises in Neapolitan-style pizzas and regional artisinal Italian cooking.  It has been a huge hit from the start; with its open kitchen and traditionally trained Italian pizziolos serving the best pizza outside of Italy!

Sherri Singleton’s culinary background includes 20 years as a caterer, consultant, award-winning restaurateur and executive chef in both her native southern California and in the UK. As a teacher and chef, she has worked tirelessly to promote the revival of the kitchen and table as centres of creativity, community and pleasure.

In addition to teaching and cooking at her restaurants, Sherri writes about food related issues for various publications and is working on her first cookbook. Sherri also has a sweet little daughter Isla, who already loves to put on her apron and help her mummy cook!
