Awarded the title of Restaurant of the Year by the Good Food Guide at the 2008 Which? awards, ramsons proprietor Chris Johnson has received many accolades over the past 25 years including the 2004 Booker Prize for Excellence as Britain’s Best Caterer. In 1995 Henrietta Green gave him a very special accolade in her Food Lovers Guide to Britain – naming the late, lamented delicatessen in the cellars of his restaurant as Britain’s Best Food Shop.
Chris’s foodie philosophy is elemental: Good food is a product of its environment (the French call it 'terroir'), and he has spent a good part of the past quarter century seeking out farmers and other suppliers who understand and respect their terroir. His chefs strive to ensure that the food they serve tastes of what it is, thus every element in a dish is on the plate for a reason; a dish achieves perfection if it tastes best when all of its elements are sampled together.
ramsons food is served in a stylish pan-Italian setting with Naseem’s award winning cuisine in the ground floor restaurant and a uniquely Italian ‘Enoteca’ (wine bar) in the basement.
Chris and his senior team members have explored Italy's restaurants and vineyards from the Alps to the Islands. What they offer has been influenced by what they have learned when travelling. The style is different from most other places; if you choose to wine and dine there please be prepared to accept them as they are!
