At Stonham Hedgerow, we make a large and varied range of hand made jams, marmalades, chutneys, jellies and preserves by using local fruits and vegetables wherever possible from the East Anglian region. Soft fruits for the jams and preserves are bought from Craig Williamson of D. C. Williamson, near Manningtree, Essex; Bramley Apples for the chutneys come from our own 60 acre fruit farm in Braiseworth, near Eye in Suffolk, Quinces, crab apples and plums are all sourced from the surrounding area.
Stonham Hedgerow was established in 1987, as a way of using up surplus fruit from Pick Your Own fields in Stonham Aspal, near Stowmarket, Suffolk. In 1994, it was bought by present owners Kathy Neuteboom and Jez Linsell, who moved to a purpose built kitchen and store in Hemingstone, north of Ipswich, where they lived at that time.
Stonham Hedgerow supplies a large number of prestigious and niche outlets, mainly in East Anglia, including hotels – to whom we offer a weekly service, including the Adnams hotels – the Swan and Crown at Southwold; numerous National Trust outlets in East Anglia, the Pier at Southwold, to name but a few. We produce a range of private label products for Selfridges, the Goring Hotel and Chatsworth. Stonham Hedgerow is the original maker of the famous Adnams Broadside marmalade and the Adnams Bramley Apple Chutney with Broadside Beer – a truly Suffolk product through and through.
A small and dedicated team of nine make up Stonham Hedgerow, all locals, who care enormously about customer care and quality. The company has received EFSIS (European Food Safety Inspection Service) accreditation for the second year running. We also consciously operate the business of recycling where and when we can - reusing cardboard, packing materials, office equipment and stationery, etc.
We aim to ensure that the products taste just like homemade – and many Chefs in particular agree with this - Head chef Robert Mace of the Crown (Adnams Hotels), Southwold recently won the title of the country’s best dining pub in the Good Food Guide 2009! We strive to make the art of jam and chutney making into a 21st Century business, without losing the principles of using excellent quality fruit with stringent and specific methods and recipes, backed up with a really good, caring and personal service.
