Really Welsh is all about happy people growing great Welsh things, and it’s the brain child of a very nice man called Colin Bailey. He’s an English guy, but hey, he found himself working for a potato business in Wales and realised he loved the place. Who can blame him? When he went back to England in 1999 he was determined to do something else in the land of his fathers (even though, strictly speaking, his dad was nothing to do with Wales) so he formed up a farming enterprise with the help of local farmers in the Vale of Glamorgan.

By 2004 another nice man called Andy Blair was on board (eek, he’s not Welsh either, but he’s almost been here for three years, and when he makes it he’ll at least qualify to play for our Rugby team) and Really Welsh were growing 300 acres of cauliflowers. They were larger, tastier and better value than all the others, and people loved them.

We’d be prepared to bet that even our own Prince is partial to the odd one or two. Specially because they’re locally produced.

After that we found out that daffodils, which were invented in Wales, are produced mostly in England or Holland. Fiddlesticks, we all thought together, so we started producing the emblem of our green and lush land through Really Welsh Daffodils, and made sure we only ever grew them to be yellower than yellow. The folks at Waitrose supermarkets were bowled over by their brightness and took them on in their stores, bringing some Welsh sunshine into everyone's lives.

Next came Really Welsh leeks. Us clever Welsh people gave then the same name as daffodils – Cennin – to make it easier. Sneaky, eh? Anyway, we grow them in colourful fields over the border (that’s North Wales to non-Southerners) and they were soon joined by Really Welsh Mushrooms, but we stayed down south to grow those tasty little chaps.
