We have a passion for whisky and we would love to share that passion with you.
From our farmhouse on the banks of the Firth of Forth, we strive to bring you whisky which is individual, unusual but above all of the finest quality. Please take time to enjoy the site hopefully with a glass of our whisky in your hand.
Jim Murray describes Sheep Dip in his 2006 Whisky Bible as “Young and sprightly like a new-born lamb, this enjoys a fresh, mouthwatering grassy style with a touch of spice. Maligned by some but to me a clever accomplished vatting of alluring complexity”

Much mythology has grown up around whisky but in reality a great whisky does not have to be the product of one distillery nor should its age be a measure of quality.

Richard Paterson, Scotland’s renowned and only third generation master blender created the Sheep Dip “vatting” by marrying together several single malt whiskies. The whiskies are aged between eight and twelve years in quality "first fill wood," each adding unique characteristics to produce an exceptional product.

Our Sheep Dip despite its iconoclastic name is a genuinely great whisky.
The name came about because British farmers have long referred to whisky as Sheep Dip. There was a time when farmers distilled their own “home-made” whisky and in order to avoid paying taxes to the revenue man hid the whisky in barrels marked “Sheep Dip”.
Farmers' merchants continued this tradition by entering cases of whisky as “Sheep dip” on farmers' bills and so “pulling the wool” over the farmers wives eyes.

Colour:
Rich, golden copper highlights.

Nose:
Delicate and refined. Soft sensual floral notes arise in perfect harmony supported by an attractive array of complex fruit flavours. Melon, pear and orange with a hint of almonds conclude this profusion of charming nuances.

Taste:
Finesse and elegance gives way to a majestic assertion of pure malty flavours drawn from the four distilling regions of Scotland. Each area forges and makes its own inimitable contribution to this outstanding pure malt - the main accent being expressed from the Highlands and Speyside Valleys.

Described in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2006 as “A big, sweet, chunky, gawky, grainlashed but hugely enjoyable blend."

Our Pig's Nose is an exceptional blended Scotch Whisky has been created for us by Richard Patterson, Scotland’s only third generation Master Blender. The whisky’s signature “smoothness” is rooted in its specially selected oak casks. Marrying these with gentle grain whiskies produces a whisky that is truly as “soft as a Pig’s Nose.” Sold and enjoyed in the U.K., U.S.A., Canada, New Zealand, Denmark, and France for over 40 years.

Colour:

Golden sandy highlights. Clear and bright.

Nose:

Firm and rich luscious creamy, round tones. The long marrying period has brought these many individual characters into one lasting union. Great harmony—soft and full with no ragged edges, smooth and mellow. Plenty of finesse and breeding.

Taste:

A positive grip, almost a spicy richness as these great flavors attack the palate—leaving it beautifully rewarded as they drift over. Elegant and distinguished. The Speyside Malts—the heart of the whisky—have played a major part in bringing this quality blend together.

A truly classic long finish.

Our new edition Sheep Dip - Old Hebridean 1990
Is as expected a galaxy of delight reflected on the palate - every complex flavour stirs the imagination regarding its origins and heritage.  Although there is a definite awareness from the West Coast, the intricate art of blending and marrying has moulded and tamed these wonderful hedonistic top notes into perfect submission along with its counterparts scattered throughout the Scottish Highlands. The backbone and structure coupled with a warm, sensual finish are the perfect accompaniments to the cured tobacco leaves of a fine cigar - just like the preparation of this noble pure malt each part of the cigar, the filler, binder or wrapper will play its part too in fulfilling and satisfying even the most discriminate connoisseur.

It has taken years to perfect this aged Pure Malt - take your time and linger over a generous glass of Old Hebridean and reflect on an exciting future.
